NRF South Africa and FAPESP 2023 – Social Sciences and Humanities

The call will support collaborative scientific activities between South African researchers and researchers from the state of São Paulo, in the amount of US$30.

This joint call is aimed at organizing, in the area of ​​Social Sciences and Humanities, of International Scientific Seminars for the purpose of scientific discussion, and to promote collaboration and knowledge transfer, encouraging interaction within the research community.

The aim of the seminars is to initiate and encourage scientific networking by bringing together small groups of researchers from South Africa and the state of São Paulo to develop new and lasting partnerships.

Two types of Grant for the Organization of Scientific Meetings will be financed: Aid for the Organization of an International Scientific Seminar for Established Researchers, with proposals in any area of ​​the Social Sciences and Humanities; and Support for the Organization of an International Scientific Seminar for Early Career Researchers, with proposals in the following areas: race, gender and social inequalities; democracy and citizenship in South Africa and Brazil; social violence, crime, policing and public safety; or space, place, built environment and identity in municipalities, illegal settlements and favelas.

Seminars must be held in person in South Africa or in the state of São Paulo, between November 2023 and October 2024, lasting up to 3 days. The grant amount will be split between the NRF and FAPESP and cannot exceed US$30.000 in total per proposal. Submissions to the NRF and FAPESP must be made by 31 July 2023.
