Graduated in Electrical Engineering from the State University of Campinas (1981), he holds a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering also from Unicamp (1984), Doctor from the Université de Paris XI, Orsay (1987) and Associate Professor from Unicamp (1992).
Since 1999, he has been a Professor at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering (FEEC) at Unicamp, of which he was Associate Director from 2003 to 2007 and Director from 2015 to 2019. He was a Visiting Professor at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Metier (CNAM/Paris ), at the Université de Paris-Descartes and at the École Normale Supérieure de Cachan, France. He was President of the Brazilian Society of Telecommunications (SBrT) from 2000 to 2004. He received the “Zeferino Vaz” Academic Recognition Award, 2008 edition, and the PROEC Award, 2020 edition.
He set up at Unicamp the Laboratory of Signal Processing for Communications (DSPCom) whose research interests concern the theory and methods of signal processing, filtering and machine learning, as well as their potential applications.
