He has a degree in Biology from Unicamp (1989), a master's degree (1992) and a doctorate (1997) in Genetics and Molecular Biology from Unicamp, with part of the doctorate being carried out at the Istituto Ricerche Immunobiologiche di Siena – Chiron Vaccines de Siena in Italy (1993/ 1995). He is Full Professor in Microbiology at Unicamp (2024).

He was professor of Microbiology at the Faculty of Medicine of USP Ribeirão Preto (1998/2004). He was elected head of the Department of Genetics, Evolution and Bioagents, today the Department of Genetics, Evolution, Microbiology and Immunology at the Institute of Biology at Unicamp (July 2011 / September 2014).

He was representative of the category of associate professors in the University Council of Unicamp (2011/2013) and associate director of the Institute of Biology at Unicamp (October 2014/October 2018).

He is an associate editor at BMC Microbiology and an associate professor at Unicamp. He has experience in the area of ​​Microbiology, with an emphasis on Genetics of Microorganisms, and works mainly on bacterial pathogenicity and genomics and expression of antigens in bacteria.
